The Swansea Chinese Community Co-op Centre is set up to provide services and support to the Chinese community of Swansea and South Wales. Our long term aim is to improve the employment prospects and general quality of life for the Chinese community whilest encouraging them to participate in local activities and services. There is no other organisation offering this service or equivalent to the ethnic Chinese. Our centre is a drop-in centre where we deal with issues relating to education, training, employment, health and social security services, housing and policing services. The range of services we provide includes: translation and interpretation, giving advice on specific problems, providing information, referring to and liaising with other agencies to meet needs as they arise, organising seminars and talks to broaden the communitys' knowledge of local services and their rights, assisting the illiterate and non-English speakers with form filling when applying for housing and other benefits, and arranging suitable education and training courses, organising cultural and leisure activities which maintains the Chinese identity and value, whilst at the same time promote social harmony and encourage integration with the community at large. We currently run English, Mandarin and IT classes at our centre. Arts and craft classes are being run during the school holidays for our younger generation to help them learn more about their roots.
